Area law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services staff throughout Monroe County will continue a 23-year tradition when the 2026 edition of National Night Out takes place Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Winnebago Park, 903 Brandon Street in Tomah.
Tomah Police Chief Eric Pedersen said that National Night Out helps his department while providing a community event. “I think people enjoy National Night Out because it’s a chance to come together as a community. It’s not every day that residents get to meet police officers, firefighters, and other community partners in a relaxed, fun setting,” said Pedersen. “One of the biggest benefits is the relationships we build. When people know the officers who serve their community, they’re more comfortable reaching out with concerns, asking questions, or sharing information. Those connections go a long way in helping us work together to keep Tomah a safe place to live, work, and raise a family,” he added.
The Tomah Police Department’s Bike Safety Expo will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. with a door prize drawing to follow (must be present to win). Bike expo participants must wear a helmet. “I’d encourage everyone to come out if they can. It’s a fun evening with activities for all ages, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to meet the people who serve our community and connect with your neighbors,” added Pedersen. “Strong communities are built on relationships, and National Night Out is one of the best opportunities we have each year to strengthen those connections.”
A variety of health and wellness interactive displays and screenings will be presented. Weather and scheduling permitting, Emplify Health MedLink AIR will be on display.
Food and refreshment sales will be available, and there will be children’s activities, including a giant obstacle course provided by Tomah Health.
Officials ask residents to park in the Tomah High School parking lot along Butts Avenue and walk across Butts Avenue to Winnebago Park.
Introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is a nonprofit crime-prevention event that puts the spotlight on crime while building relationships that create safe communities.
