Tomah Health, ADRC Host Advance Life Planning Event Oct. 22

Health officials know the importance of planning ahead. That’s why the Social Services Dept. at Tomah Health along with the Monroe County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) are hosting an Advance Life Planning event Oct. 22 from 8:30 a.m. – noon in the Harvest Room at the Tomah Health Professional Development Center, 501 Gopher Dr., Tomah.

According to Tomah Health Social Worker Kaelyn Laylan, the free event will include speakers highlighting estate planning, wills and trusts, elder benefits, Medicaid and spousal impoverishment, funeral planning along with dementia, hospice and palliative care options.
“Advance care planning is making decisions about the healthcare you would want to receive if you happen to become unable to speak for yourself”, said Laylan. “These are your decisions to make, regardless of what you choose for your care, and the decisions are based on your personal values, preferences, and discussions with your loved ones.”

In addition to handouts, light refreshments will also be served. “Sharing your personal values with your loved ones is a vital component of the entire process,” added Laylan.

There is no charge to attend the event, however Laylan said space is limited so reservations are required by contacting Laylan at Tomah Health at (608)377- 8444 by Oct. 8.
