It was a historic day for the Tomah Health Women’s Health Department when a set of twins was born April 24.
Eli and Morgan Yoder of Wilton welcomed Penelope Sue at 10:12 p.m. and Franklin Miller at 10:35 p.m. “It was quite the little surprise,” said Eli. “I was unaware that we were going to be the first set of twins in here, so it was exciting to hear.”
Morgan had an idea that they may be the first to have twins. “I kind of had an idea. I keep track of the baby posts that come through the birth announcements, and I hadn’t seen any,” said Morgan. “I think it’s pretty awesome.”
Tomah Health Women’s Health Coordinator Tammie Schroeder said it’s the first set of twins delivered in the department since Tomah Health opened in 2019. “There was a set that was delivered in our Emergency Department a few years back, but this is the first set that we’ve actually got to deliver in our department since opening in 2019,” said Schroeder.
She said the historic moment was exciting for the hospital staff. “It’s not something that happens all the time. It just took a little more coordinating of staff so that we could offer a safe delivery option for them here. It was very much a team effort,” she added.
The couple have three other children at home, two of which were also born at Tomah Health. “It’s very exciting, but very exhausting. It’ll be an adventure,” added Eli. “I’ve had a really great experience here,” said Morgan. “All the nurses and staff have been very friendly, very helpful with both me and the care of the twins.”
Schroeder said about 230 babies are born at Tomah Health each year.
