Aging is a natural part of life, and being prepared for the twists and turns of living can lead to a healthy lifestyle. That is why Tomah Health is holding its Healthy Aging Expo on Oct. 15 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Professional Development Center at Tomah Health, 501 Gopher Dr., Tomah.
“The reality of life is that everybody is aging and I think being able to do that well is very important,” said Tomah Health community health educator Whitney Sanjari. “There are things that we can do now in preparing for it as we age so we can focus on the things that really matter the most.”
Sanjari was quick to point out the event is being held at Tomah Health this year. “We have a great facility with our new Professional Development Center and want to use it for this year’s event.” She said parking will be available in the Tomah Health main lot, including areas near the entrance to the Professional Development Center.
Several presentations are scheduled at the Expo including a presentation on fraud by the Tomah Area Credit Union from 1:15 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. Officials say scammers are more likely to target adults over 60, using increasingly sophisticated tactics to gain access to personal information and financial assets. The educational seminar is designed specifically for seniors and caregivers, providing practical tips and real-world examples to help recognize and avoid common scams. The session also covers what to do if a person becomes a victim of fraud and how to report suspicious activity.
At 2:30 p.m., Tomah Tech Hero owner Josh Peot will share information on staying safe online. From passwords to Wi-Fi to what AI knows about you, staying safe online doesn’t require becoming a tech expert. Peot said his talk will cover simple, practical habits to protect accounts, devices, and privacy so people can use technology with confidence, not anxiety.
At 3:15 p.m. Peot will discuss how photos can be stored via the cloud in a presentation, titled “ “Where Did My Photos Go? Understanding the Cloud and What It Knows About You”.
Sanjari said the Expo will also feature a Health Fair from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. with various vendors sharing information on health-related topics focused on older adults. “It’s important to have a community presence and bring together all of the organizations that serve our community,” Sanjari said of the hospital’s sponsorship of the event. “It’s a great place for people to learn, to have fun and a social experience with other people.” Complimentary food and door prizes will be included at the Expo.
