Tomah Health Physical Therapist Caitlin Caliri, left, explained results of a balance screening to Colleen Carl of Warrens during the Tomah Health Healthy Aging Expo at the Cranberry Country Lodge in Tomah Sept. 16.
The complimentary balance screening used a Biodex Balance System that officials said helps identify a person’s risk of falling, which is the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older residents. Nationwide more than 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries each year.
Tomah Health Community Outreach coordinated the expo, which included health and safety displays, a nutrition presentation on cooking for one or two, a cooking demonstration along with prizes, food and refreshments.
Tomah Health has sponsored the event for the last 29 years.
Tomah Health Nutrition Services Director and Registered Dietician Michelle Lindsay presented nutrition information and food tips during her presentation: “Cooking for One or Two”.
