A one-year project has been completed at Tomah Health as officials opened its new Professional Development Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 501 Gopher Dr., Tomah May 15.
Community and hospital officials celebrated the opening of the approximately 10,000 sq. ft. facility which included a conference room named in recognition of John and Velda Felton of Warrens whose trust allocated more than $1 million to the project. “Our expanded conference center space is truly a testament to John and Velda Felton who so graciously supported this project through their trust,” said Tomah Health CEO Derek Daly.
He praised the thoughtfulness of the Felton’s for their support of Tomah Health. “The Felton’s made a major contribution to Tomah Health in 2023 to the tune of $2.2 million, with a little over a million of that targeted toward this project and another $1.1 million for our hospice program and a series of projects on that campus. They have really made a massive difference to our ability to carry out this project on this type of scale and this type of timeline.”
The Felton’s were recognized with the naming of the conference center, which will be known as the Felton Conference Center as well as a high-tech simulation lab named in their honor. “Training and further education of our staff is paramount and with the Felton’s support we were able to add a high-tech simulation lab to our new facility which will enhance care we provide to our community,” added Daly. He said the conference center includes two rooms, named the Cranberry Room and Harvest Room as further recognition to the Felton’s and their ties to the cranberry industry and Warrens area.
Nonclinical offices for employee development, education, and health are also part of the new addition. “This is really an important project for us as an organization but also will have benefits to our community and the surrounding area,” said Daly. “We will be offering the conference center to individuals to conduct different events and conferences as they tie to overall health and wellness. We are excited for that opportunity.”
Daly said the Professional Development Center is the first phase in a proposed multi-phased enhancement of the main hospital which opened in 2019. “Phase two of our plan will allow us to build on some of the spaces that opened up in the main core of our building.” He said the next phase is currently in the planning stage Tomah Health is here to invest in our community, to invest in our health, to invest in our people, and to invest in the surrounding area. “We look forward to doing that in the years and decades to come,” added Daly.
